Six New Inductees into the Searcy Education Foundation Ninth Annual Hall of Honor

Four educators and two Searcy High School alumni will be inducted into the Searcy Public Schools Education Foundation Hall of Honor on January 26, 2012.

The banquet and induction ceremony will be held in the Sullards Annex Cafeteria at Searcy High School at 6:30 p.m. and tickets priced at $30.00 will go on sale December 5. They may be picked up at the Searcy Public Schools Superintendent’s Office at 801 North Elm or by calling 268-3517.


Being honored in 2012 are educators Calvin Estes, assistant superintendent for support services and special programs for Searcy Public Schools, Betty Wallis, retired Searcy High School biology teacher, Carrie Ann Washington, retired special education teacher, and Phillis Wood, a retired elementary school teacher. The alumni being honored are Justice Cliff Hoofman, a former state senator who currently serves on the Arkansas State Court of Appeals, and posthumously Vernon Williams, who served as a long-time school board member and community leader.


The honorees were selected from nominations submitted by the public to the alumni committee of the foundation. The six recommendations were then voted on by the foundation board.


A. Watson Bell, Searcy Education Foundation alumni committee chairman, remarks “We are very pleased with the slate of inductees and feel as though all are most deserving of this esteemed honor. We look forward to an enjoyable evening as we celebrate this annual event.”


These new inductees will bring the total of members in the hall to 47. Previously inducted into the hall are James W. Ahlf, Morse Mallett,, Fletcher Sullards, Johnnie Dacus Amonette, Wayne Hartsfield, Albert R. Yarnell, Nona Cheatham, Luther S. Hardin, Sr., Fran Key, Justice Darrell D. Hickman, Dr. Porter Rodgers, Jr., Bobbie Coleman, Ruth Fuller, Everlyn Green, Don Christian, Dr. J.D. Patterson, Reverend Emil Williams, Tony Wood, Larry Crain, Sr., Cal Skaggs, E.D. Yancey, Marjorie Martin, Jerry Mote, Billy Roy Floyd, Phillip H. Pyeatt, Jean Ann Bell, Glenda Kelley, Todd Carpenter, Perrin Jones, James “Red” Morgan, Dr. Tim Langford, Patsy Pryor, Lori Nielsen, Harold Haggard, Dr. Robert Elliott, Ginger Beebe, Mary Lou Dunn, Barbara Evans, Dr. Steven Barger, Nancy Showalter, and A. Watson Bell.


Since the inception of the foundation, grants have been awarded to teachers for educational programs that were not funded by the normal operating budget of Searcy Public Schools.
